WHAT IS TWS?

            We manufacture PTFE Sleeves/Tubings by a unique `Tape-Wrapping Sintering' (TWS) method.  PTFE unsintered tape of uniform thickness is applied around a mandrel and sintered at a temperature beyond the melting point of PTFE.  Various layers of tape fuse into one homogenous insulation which is electrically very good.  The mandrel is then removed and a sleeve remains.  This is a process similar to one pioneered by W.L.Gore & Associates, Inc. (of Gore Tex fame) for making PTFE Insulated wires.  These wires find specific mention in U.S. Navy's MIL-W-16878 specifications for many years, and are listed against slash sheets 20, 21, 22, 24, 26, 28, 34 and 35 in the latest `F' version. 

ADVANTAGES OF TWS METHOD

 1. Wider Temperature Range - PTFE extruded tubings are generally difficult to make (since PTFE is not melt-processible), so the manufacturers have moved on to FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene), thereby sacrificing the temperature range on the higher end.  FEP is designed for use upto 200C only, and costs more.  Our PTFE tubings will work upto 260C and shall withstand a peak of 300C for short durations.  On the lower extreme, PTFE is well known for flexibility even at cryogenic temperatures, say -200C.

 2. Superior Electrical Performance - Since we ensure minimum 3 layers of PTFE tape at any given point (for larger sizes, there are many more layers, depending on the wall thickness), the electrical performance is much better than that for extruded PTFE tubings.  The tubings possess very high degree of concentricity, a critical parameter in all insulating requirements.

 3. Small lots economical, many colours - TWS tubings are batch-processed, so there is no need for very large minimum orders and small lots are available very economically.  Also, 12 solid colours are available (bi-colours as well).

 4. Burst Pressure - Many applications, such as chemical, hydraulic and similar areas, require the tubing to withstand certain minimum burst pressure.  Since the molecular orientation in TWS tubings is bi-axial, these are able to withstand almost twice the burst pressure to that of same size extruded tube.  For this reason, one can use tubes with lower wall thickness, thus saving on cost.  Tubings with SS overbraid are also available for additional protection.

 5.Abrasion Resistanceand Flex-life of PTFE TWS tubings are superior to same size extruded tubing.  Due to enhanced reliability, one can work with lower wall thickness to effect savings.

6. Smooth Internals - Despite outer surface not being very smooth, the inside of TWS tubings are perfectly smooth and allow easy insertion of members, especially considering the low coefficient of friction advantage of PTFE.
